Sharjeel appeals to PM to intervene

LAHORE: Spot-fixing convict Sharjeel Khan on Tuesday sought “justice” from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chief patron.

Talking to media in Lahore, he said that he had been treated unjustly and appealed to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to order a fair trial. He said he would fight all allegations against him. “PCB Chairman Najam Sethi should call me so that I can clarify everything,” he said.

Sharjeel accused the PCB anti-corruption unit of being biased. His lawyer Shaigan Ijaz claimed that the PCB had made amendments to its constitution. A tribunal has banned opener Sharjeel Khan for five years over a spot-fixing case that rocked the Pakistan Super League early this year.

The 28-year-old left-handed opener was provisionally suspended along with fellow opener Khalid Latif in February for violating the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) anti-corruption code.
