After the dismissal of in-from Babar Azam and Azhar Ali, Pakistan looked towards veteran Malik to save them from the ignominy of losing yet another match to their arch rivals, in a world event. While Malik somehow showed early promise by hitting a six and a couple of fours, he really couldn’t make it count.
In the 24th over, Malik sliced an Umesh Yadav delivery to the left of backward point and set off for a single. While the Pakistani would have thought that he would complete the run easily, he seemed to have forgotten that the ball had gone straight into the hands of Ravindra Jadeja. Although Mohammed Hafeez forced Malik to return to his batting crease, it took only seconds for Jadeja to sprint to his left and throw the ball, while off balance, directly at the wickets on the striker’s end.
The throw sent the stumps for a walk and India got the lynchpin of the Pakistan batting line-up. But it was not the only instance that Jadeja showed his brilliance today. In the 13th over of the innings, which was also bowled by Umesh Yadav, Jadeja, moved across swiftly at the backward point to pouch a lightening quick catch to dismiss Babar Azam for 8.
