Mosquito menace flies high, chikungunya cases on the rise

But despite the rise in numbers, doctors say that most patients walking in with chikungunya symptoms are not being tested for the virus. "Chikung unya symptoms can be mistaken for dengue or zika virus like symptoms too.

However in majority of the cases, tests are only done if the symptoms last for much longer.," said Dr Sunitha Narreddy , specialist infectious diseases, Apollo hospitals. Delhi, Bengaluru and parts of Kerala too reported a spurt in chikungunya cases earlier this year, with Delhi recording 174 cases up to August.
