Company has already bought new infrastructure in preparation.
ISLAMABAD: Telenor Pakistan said it is awaiting final confirmation from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) before proceeding with its strategy in the run-up to the upcoming spectrum auction.
The PTA has completed the hiring process for consultant for the spectrum auction due early next year, and Telenor Pakistan says it is waiting for the information memorandum to move forward.
“There is a will and desire to go for the next-generation services but we are waiting for the Information Memorandum,” said Chief Marketing Officer Telenor Pakistan, Irfan Wahab Khan, while talking to The Express Tribune here on Wednesday.
An Information Memorandum is the document that contains the proposed auction schedule, terms and conditions for the spectrum auction for next generation mobile services in Pakistan (including 3G and advanced generations).
On October 7, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the allocation of the spectrum licence be technology neutral (3G or 4G) and auction be open for new entrants as well.
Khan said that Telenor has brought in new infrastructure, changing every bit and piece for the new services.
He said that cellular packages have grown in complexity over the years as operators have sought to differentiate themselves with a range of pricing options and packages, and new data products have been added to the mix.
