Fazl sees attack on MQM leader a sabotage act

KARACHI – Both the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F have unanimously agreed that the attack on MQM leader Rashid Godil is a ‘conspiracy’ to sabotage their negotiations on the issue of resignations.

According to reports, Godil and his wife were injured when unidentified gunmen sprayed bullets on their car here in Bahadurabad area. His driver was killed in firing. The attack came when JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman was at the MQM headquarters Nine Zero to persuade the party to withdraw its resignations from the assemblies.

“This attack seems to be an attempt to destabilise the peace and political situation. This is a coward act and could be a conspiracy to sabotage our negotiation process. I hope that law enforcing institutions will play their role to bring the culprits to book,” MQM’s Farooq Sattar spoke to media persons alongside the JUI-F chief.

He hoped that Fazlur Rehman would take the talks ahead. The JUI-F chief also spoke to media, describing the attack as a conspiracy. “I’m thankful to MQM leaders for welcoming me and showing positive response despite attack on their colleague. This is a deplorable incident and a coward act to sabotage our negotiations,” he said.

He hoped that the MQM would review their decision of resignation, and vowed to continue playing his role as mediator in the fresh political crisis.
