Justice Jawwad Khawaja takes oath as CJP

ISLAMABAD: Justice Jawwad S Khawaja was sworn in as Chief Justice of Pakistan at a ceremony today at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja will remain in the office for 24 days and will retire on September 9. Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali will succeed him, who will take oath as CJP on September 10.

Justice Khawaja was born in Wazirabad on December 10, 1950. He did graduation from FC College in 1971 and LLB from Punjab University Law College in 1973. He then obtained a master (LLM) degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1975. He started his practice as lawyer in the Lahore High Court in 1975 and was enrolled as advocate in Supreme Court in 1985. He was appointed as judge of the Lahore High Court in 1999. He resigned as judge of high court on April 21 as a protest against suspension of former CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry on March 9, 2007 by military dictator Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf. He joined the Lahore College of Management Sciences as professor before his re-induction as judge of SC on June 5, 2009.
