ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said Wednesday unless and until the roots of democracy are not strengthened in the county, questions will continue to be raised about the parliamentary system. “Democracy will strengthen in the country if we hold two or three free and fair elections continuously,” he said while talking to Parliamentary Reporters Association, which organised a farewell reception in his honour at the Parliament House.
He said Maj-Gen Ihtesham Zameer (retd) had admitted that what he did in 2002 elections was not correct. He said there should be no break ups of the political parties and the people should be given the right to keep in or keep out any party. About the absence of democracy in the political parties, the speaker did not agree, saying that there was no individual dictatorship within the political parties as the decisions were made after consultations.
