Try not to go insane as you rush to prevent the destruction of Earth.

Yahtzee Croshaw isn’t just an angry man on the internet — he also makes games. Pretty good ones, too, and joining the list of them is The Consuming Shadow, a new roguelike that blends Lovecraftian horror with what he describes as Faster Than Light-inspired gameplay.

“The Consuming Shadow is a procedurally-generated horror adventure game with a Lovecraftian theme and gameplay inspired by such things as FTL: Faster Than Light, Eternal Darkness, and the board game Arkham Horror,” reads the official site.

The game requires you to travel across England, investigating the arrival of an ancient Elder God and assembling the pieces necessary for the Banishment Ritual — but you also need to determine which Elder God it is, because using the wrong ritual means failure and the consumption of all life on Earth. And there’s a sanity meter to take care of too, so that you don’t go insane and commit suicide. Horrific! (I love it.)
