Two-time PPFL champions move up in points table.
KARACHI: Army outplayed table-toppers Muslim FC 3-0 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) match at the KMC Stadium on Thursday.
The two-time champions performed aggressively to have their efforts answered when Ansar Abbas scored the opener in the 45th minute to put Army in the lead 1-0 at the interval.
Army then doubled their lead with Mubashir Hussain’s goal in the 63rd minute. Muhammad Zahid sealed the sixth win for his team in the season with his strike nine minutes later.
According to match commissioner Shakoor Baloch, Muslim FC seemed to be suffering from the absence of their top scorer Hayatullah, who had earned a yellow card in the previous match.
“It was a one-sided match and Muslim FC seemed lost in Hayatullah’s absence,” Baloch told The Express Tribune. “Hayatullah is Muslim FC’s key striker; he creates chances and attempts to score. However, Army are also good performers. They are a strong side in the competition.”
Despite the defeat, Muslim FC continued on top of the league table with 36 points while Army moved to the seventh place with 25 points.
In another match, PAF defeated KPT 2-0. Mohammad Arif and Irfan Ali scored a goal each in the second-half. Consequently, PAF moved on the fourth position with 27 points, while KPT stood on the eighth position with 24 points.
Meanwhile, Pak-Afghan Clearing Agency and Navy played a goalless match at the Korangi Baloch Stadium. Navy continued on the ninth position with 23 points, while Paca drew their 10th match of the season. They continued on the 13th spot with 18 points.
